Ruby Bankhead

About

Ruby Bankhead is a weaver and textile artist who lives and works in South London, UK. She draws directly from the world around her, reproducing traditional craft practices in an attempt to preserve and reinterpret traditional craft practices.

Upon graduating from Chelsea College of Arts in 2021, she received first-class honours for her BA in Textile Design, specialising in weaving. Bankhead’s work is inspired by antique domestic textiles and linens, which are primarily functional objects within the home. Bankhead’s work involves a series of woven and quilted works; weaving involves interlacing threads to create fabric or cloth, while quilting is the process of stitching layers of fabric together. These time-honoured techniques, combined with Bankhead’s distinct use of pattern, reveal a contemporary edge to traditional craft.
