Sweetheart pincushions were made by soldiers during the first world war for loved ones back home. They are a token of love for the people who mean most to us, shown through needle and thread. Nurses provided material kits whilst looking after the injured. The pincushions were often made from ciggarette cards, beads, lace and trimmings with messages such as ‘I think of thee’ and ‘Forget me not’.
This workshop will provide a brief history of these pincushions, all materials and a step by step tutorial. This is Cloth Club’s first workshop and we look forward to celebrating the art of giving through textiles with you. Thank you 🤍
